My Business Plan

October 6, 2010

The looming threat of unemployment makes one look outside the box for job opportunities. Of course, I’m not ready to thrown in the towel on “traditional” jobs, but I’ve started seeing some unconventional (yet completely legal) ways of earning a paycheque.

Case in point: I keep coming across ads from people looking for dog walkers.

I never really paid any attention to them until last night.

Of course, I was home sick, highly drugged on Nyquil and watching Glee at the time.

I feel this bears mentioning.

In any case, people will apparently pay someone $20 per walk. Per dog. For one hour.

And they want you to walk their dog once per day, 5 days per week.

Feasibly, you could walk 4 or 5 dogs at the same time. So in one hour you’ve made $100.

Let’s say you find 15 clients, and walk each dog once per day. That’s $300 per day.

By the time you pick the dogs up, walk them, return them to their homes, that’s probably $300 for 4 hours work.

5 days per week. 4 weeks per month.

Um.

Do the math.

I did.

And then I fell off my couch.

Of course, I’m not sure if that was due to the Nyquil, the Grilled Cheesus, or the math.

Bonus: Free exercise

Dude, I’ve been considering offering my services to people in my building. I could supplement my latte habit by just walking a couple of dogs each day. I generally walk myself anyway, so what’s a little poo pick-up added to the equation?

I bet we paid $20 for 30 minutes! Add THAT to your calculations! 🙂

Hmmm….this would be a way better part time job than mine at the store. A student could definitely live off that!

    See you tomorrow night!

DO IT! Seriously! And I think I’m going to look into it too!

Sounds like a pretty sweet business plan. I still plan to win Set For Life. That’s my career goal.
